The excitement is growing week by week after Game of Thrones’ every episode being aired by HBO. The most popular TV series is grabbing more new fans every week. Game of Thrones Season 06 Episode 06 (S06E06) has created more buzz than previous episodes, especially after watching the “Hold The Door” tragedy and Stark’s son’s time travel ability.
Though HBO presents the show in front of millions of Americans at the right time, the leaked shows, torrent downloads and illegal GoT streaming has attracted most of the non-Americans.
Despite having a state-of-the-art website for online stream, and despite having partnerships with Netflix, Xbox and other platforms for the convenience of the audience, people are still relying on torrents, download websites and streaming sites to watch every (or missed) episodes of Game of Thrones.
In many countries, the netizens have either no access to HBO services or they haven’t bought HBO accounts or they don’t want to wait for the late launch of Game of Thrones and wait for one or two more days to watch it. And, all we know is they are very desperate to search “Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 6” or “Game of Thrones S06E06” torrents from today onwards. This is called absolute piracy and the company, this year, has tried even harder to stop the piracy by raising DMCA takedown complaints on torrent sites and any piracy-related blogs which provide links to download the pirated videos and torrent links.
Episode 6 is titled Blood of My Blood and the synopsis reads: “An old foe comes back into the picture. Gilly (Hannah Murray) meets Sam’s (John Bradley) family. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a difficult choice. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) faces off against the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce).”
This year HBO (even AMC for their The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead) has spent thousands of dollars to set up a dedicated team to counter illegal downloads and torrent sites. Even, they have not sent the review copy of their show to any third-parties, starting this year. But, it is estimated that the year 2016 has seen most piracy of Game of Thrones series. If HBO has an average of 14 million live viewers as official count, millions of users are still downloading the show from the internet. Last episode (GoT S06E05) was leaked, 24 hours before the show’s premiere by its own HBO Nordic. Fortunately, this time they have taken care of it and the latest episode hasn’t managed to sneak onto the internet before its premiere today.
