Moto G4 continues the flagship of Lenovo Moto G series. Very interestingly, Moto G itself comes in a set of three Smartphones. In the lineup, the standard Moto G4 device is followed up by Moto G4 Play and Moto G4 Plus respectively. In this article we will compare the standard Moto G4 model with the 2015 released Moto G model. 

Chipset: As far as features are concerned, a progression over the last year model is clearly visible in the newly released version. The 2015 Moto G model featured a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz while the newly released Moto G4 model features an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz. The evolutionary model offers an extra clocking of .1 GHz. An octa-core processor instead of a quad-core processor suggests that the new processor will be able to handle work pressure.

Memory: The 2015 model came in two variations, 8 GB ROM with 1 GB RAM variant and 16 GB ROM with 2 GB RAM variant. The 2016 model is offering 16 GB and 32 GB ROM variations along with a solid 2 GB RAM.

Battery and Resolution: The previous Moto G model was backed up by a 2470 mAh battery which gave users 1.5 days of usability with moderate use. However, this might be because of the fact that Moto G featured a mere 720 pixel display. Moto G4, featuring a 1080 pixel display is backed up by a 3000 mAh battery. It is expected that the new model featuring a bigger battery will also last for 1.5 days.

Display size: Moto G4 comes with a display size of 5.5 inches which is .5 inches larger than the previous model. Though this would not make much of a difference, those who are Smartphone video or game addicts will welcome this feature.

Design: More or less both the device features similar designs. The previous model featured a bigger rear camera which extended up to the Motorola logo. The new model gives space to the logo and camera respectively. Further, Moto G4 looks more refined due to the new glass look.

Resistance: Moto G was both water and dust resistant. The water resistance potential of the model is up to 30 minutes in 3 ft water. On the other hand Moto G4 comes with a water repellent nano coating, which promises to protect the handset from splashes of water. This suggests that if the handset is accidentally dropped in water, then the phone might be damaged.

Operating System: Both the handsets run on the latest version of the Android operating system, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Users will get to use Android Marshmallow along with stock Android intended by Google. It is expected that the there will be quick update features for Android updates. If this happens then Moto G4 will be among one of the few devices to get upgraded to Android N within 2016.

Price: Though the official price is yet to be announced, Moto G4 is likely to cost something around 180$ which will be a hike of not even 50 $ than the previous model.

From the specifications mentioned above, we can clearly get that Moto G4 is a better option than Moto G. If you don’t want to spend dollars over flagship, but still want to keep up to date with the operating system updates and app updates, then Moto G4 is a good choice for you.  However, if you want to keep a phone for occasional web browsing and low powered tasks then Moto G might suit you well.
