Since the launch of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung has been quicker at releasing smaller software updates and bug fixes, almost every month. Today, outside of its typical monthly schedule, Samsung has rolled out the latest firmware update with Android security patches and quick bug fixes for its flagships.

Samsung rolls firmware version FXXU1APE9 to both Galaxy S7 and Edge. The file size is 332MB for Galaxy S7 and 353MB for Galaxy S7 Edge. It looks like the nature of the update is extraordinary, in terms of timings as well as the software itself.

Earlier, the monthly smaller updates came with usual generic Android security patch release notes without naming any specific bugs and enhancements. But this time, Samsung has specifically noted that the update will improve a feature related to screen clarity when using Always On Display.

In the list of bug fixes, occasional cover recognition issue, initial video playback flickering after recording, occasional issue of files not being saved to SD cards and issue of not able to disable the Power Save mode when Google Now is running, has been specified.

But, it looks like, the 300+MB file package looks like a hefty package for such smaller bug fixes and improvements. Maybe it’s more important than it looks. You can wait for the update notification in coming days, or you can skip the wait and head into the Settings » About device menu to download the update right away.

On the other hand the European version of Samsung Galaxy S6 also got a 250MB minor Android updatewith tons of bug fixes, performance improvements, one handed mode from Galaxy Note 5 and May security patch.
