The Chinese start up company OnePlus launches its new flagship phone, OnePlus 3, for which we were waiting amidst all the leaks and rumors of the specifications. We have several flagship phones to compare with the OnePlus 3 but out of all the phones, the one that tops as a boss is Samsung Galaxy S7.
OnePlus 3 seconds the list of phones, which comes with 6GB of RAM next to Le Max 2 which was launched in India recently. Let’s check here what all features stand out from the stack, when compared to Samsung Galaxy S7.
Availability and Price: Samsung officially announced its flagship phone, Samsung S7 on 21st Feb 2016. The OnePlus 3 was launched recently on 14th June 2016. Samsung Galaxy price is $670 to $699 but the cost of OnePlus 3 is $299 only. Albeit, we cannot just say which is best just by the range of pricing, could we? Let’s list down other specification differences that is worth the money.
Design: The OnePlus dropped the sandstone back and made it fully aluminium anodised with its recent release. With rounded edge design and home button with a fingerprint scanner, a front facing camera on the upper part of the phone, make it look like HTC one. It comes with dimensions 153 x 75 x 7mm weighing 158gms.
Samsung Galaxy S7 also features the same kind of the home button with fingerprint scanner with capacitive touch buttons. The Samsung S7 is a glass body, which makes it weighs down to 152g with dimensions 142 x 70 x 8mm and makes the phone look smaller and thicker. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and the OnePlus 3 are available in various color options. The S7 is available in Black, Gold, White, Silver or Pink, Gold, while the OnePlus comes in either Graphite or Soft Gold. As far as we can deduce by the weight and the looks, obviously Samsung Galaxy S7 steals the show by being the nicest-looking phones available.
Display: We have already reviewed Samsung galaxy S7 as one of the finest looking phones with regards to display. It carries a QHD display panel with 1440×2560 pixels resolution. Also the pixels per inch(PPI) it renders is 534, which makes it vibrant looking topped with AMOLED technology. The OnePlus has enforced the AMOLED technology, only in this version of the release. Although, it is the only thing that goes up to the mark, when compared with S7’s display. Because the pixel amount rendered by the OnePlus 3 is less, just 401 ppi with the pixel resolution 1080×1920 pixels. It is enough pixels, yeah. But considering both the phones having 5.5 inch screen display, we think the OnePlus could have put a little more thought into the pixel definition.
Hardware: Exceptionally, the Samsung Galaxy S7 qualifies to be a near-perfect flagship phone because of its processor variants. Snapdragon 820 or an Exynos 8890 processor – both of which are incredibly powerful chips, capable of running pretty much anything you can throw at them. Combine either with 4GB of RAM and, in short, the Galaxy S7 is very fast. Of course, no can deny that the OnePlus 3 comes with the massive amount of 6GB RAM and Snapdragon 820 while keeping the price down, thereby increasing the expectations in the people with terms of faster processing. The OnePlus 3 outdo Samsung when speaking of storage. It lavishly gives us 64GB with no external storage expansion (That’s okay though! ). As opposed to 32GB variant of Samsung Galaxy S7. Both the mobile phones are smartly equipped with NFC capability, which enables us to use them with Android Pay and the 3.5m jack, which will become a novelty feature in a few years.
OnePlus 3 stands out yet again with the feature USB TYPE C connection with Dash Charge Technology, whereas Samsung decided to stick with micro-USB port for S7.
Software: Though both the phones is packed with Android Marshmallow, the difference lies in the Android skins they use for the user interface. The Samsung uses TouchWiz, which is cluttered a bit, but the company has infused only less obstructions. The OnePlus uses its own skin named as Oxygen OS, which is better than the two skins, because it embeds extra functions on top of standard Android wear, giving users a new experience in look and feel. It also doesn’t come with a load of apps from the company itself, as is the case with the S7 and its Android skin.
Camera and battery: The OnePlus 3 comes with a power packed 3300 mAh, battery which is durable for about one and a half day almost making the match with Samsung S7’s 3000 mAh battery supported with Snapdragon 820 processor. We are happy with both the phones in terms of the battery. So the difference in the battery standby is only negligible.
Samsung sports only 12MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, but with a dual lens which helps the autofocus lock onto the target faster and more accurately, and for more light to be captured by each pixel. But we are yet to try with the OnePlus 3 cameras, although the pictures occupying the internet claiming to be shot on the OnePlus 3 is not disappointing at all. It comes with the 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and both the phones are impressive enough to click razor sharp images.
Overall, the OnePlus will struggle to match the S7’s pre-eminent phone camera, but the sample shots look promising. We’ll have a full comparison once we get a review model of the OnePlus in for testing.
Which is best? Samsung masters the flagship phones this year and remains on top because of its high end features and design; but it gets outdone by the OnePlus 3 only by price. If you want the very best, then the S7 is the way to go. But if you want something for a much lower price that almost matches it, the OnePlus 3 might just be perfect in the store for you.
