For some children it takes much longer to get into a good foster home than expected. This was the case for an eight-year-old boy being referred to simply as “Jodi”. For a number of weeks, the boy has been waiting patiently with little to do at the offices for the Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services hoping that soon his day would come to be placed but to no avail.
The Tampa area will be welcoming two new restaurants to its thriving restaurant scene. American Social and Thai Prime are scheduled to open in the Harbour Island area of the city. Thai Prime plans to open in December, while American Social is scheduled to officially open next August.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies are now looking for a new head coach and general manager. The people filling those positions for the team were let go on Friday, according to a report in the Tampa Tribune. Owner Bill Edwards said in a news release, “Decisions like these are never easy, but I hope this move shows both the players and the fans that my commitment to creating a world-class professional soccer experience remains undaunted.”
After some controversy, the St. Petersburg Pier is being demolished today. Known fondly as “The Pier”, the iconic 42-year-old pier is being taken down after approval from the city. At 5:00 pm, the public can attend the Celebrating the St. Petersburg Pier in honor of the pier’s long history but also for a new project known as Pursuing the Future.
A project to provide free electric car rides in the downtown Tampa area is reportedly in the works. The Tampa Downtown Partnership has a plan under consideration to provide a small number of electric cars for residents and visitors to travel around downtown. Similar plans are already being implemented in Orlando and Key West.
If you are interested in a job at the soon-to-open Tampa Premium Outlets mall, a job fair is scheduled for August 27 to fill 800 open positions. The Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event at the Embassy Suites located at 3705 Spectrum Blvd. The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has proudly announced the addition of 84 new jobs at Tampa Tank and Florida Structural Steel in the Port Redwing area. The announcement was made as the governor and his entourage surveyed the 25-acre site with Tampa Tank CEO David Hale on Tuesday.
People who own condominiums in Tampa Bay’s Signature Place have been hit with an $8.7 million special assessment fee. As the tallest but also newest condo tower in the city, the assessment is meant to repair serious and urgent defects in construction that puts both residents and pedestrians in danger.
Two 75-story towers have been proposed for Port Tampa Bay’s plan for the Channel District area. A rendering of the $1.5 billion project was released last week. The proposed towers are slim to avoid blocking other buildings’ views of the port. Each tower was designed with six units per floor, totaling 450 units. The units will average about 1,450 square feet each.
